Tuesdays, September 21 – October
26, 2004 – A Communication Through Arts
partnership with the Community Law Office and
the Knoxville Museum of Art presents “The
Magic of Opera.” This program goes behind the Scenes with
Knoxville Opera’s Knoxville Opera Studio artists and other
local experts in the fields of opera, art, and literature in a
six-week program that gives at-risk youth a personal, interactive
look at W.A. Mozart’s opera, “The Magic Flute.”
Students will get to see a mini version of the opera, create their
own sets, design their own costumes, write a continuation of the
story of the opera, and watch the opera live with international
opera performers. There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner
chosen from the set creations, costume designs, and story writing
sessions of the course. ALL artwork and writings will be displayed
at the Knoxville Museum of Art from November 5-28, 2004! Youth
ages 11-15 living in Knox County can participate in “The
Magic of Opera” program.
Tuesday, October 5, 2004 –“Walk
on the Culture Side” at the Knoxville Museum
of Art– Knoxville Opera joins the Knoxville Museum
of Art to promote grandparent and youth partnered events.
Saturdays, October 2 and October 9, 2004
- Partnership with the Knoxville area Girl Scouts of America.
Presentations of “Hello Operator?” and “Opera
Antics!” These presentations not only include the typical
outreach performance, but also interactive activities for the
Girl Scouts to experience the joy of opera.
NEW EVENT! October 12, 2004 and
November 9, 2004 - “Opera at the Rothrock”
is a new joint event with the Lawson McGhee Library
and Knoxville Opera. Come to the library to get
a sneak preview of upcoming operas with performances by the Knoxville
Opera Studio artists. Also available at the library will be additional
resources to learn more about opera.
