Your support helps Knoxville Opera continue its important work in producing great operas and making our community a better place to live and experience the performing arts. Unfortunately, income from ticket sales only cover about 25% of the cost of producing a great opera (or any other producing organization, including football) which is why we – and other producing organizations – rely on private donations, foundations, government support, and corporate partnerships.

Reasons to Support Knoxville Opera

  • You support arts education for students in our community. Knoxville Opera offers interactive music education programs in elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as exciting and informative student dress rehearsals for students.
  • You contribute to the revitalization of downtown Knoxville. The Knoxville Opera’s annual Rossini Festival and International Street Fair brings tens of thousands of people to downtown Knoxville to enjoy dozens of performing arts groups and a variety of artisans and food vendors, all of which contributes to the local economy.
  • You make Knoxville a better place to live and work.As a culturally rich East Tennessee community, Knoxville attracts companies, families, and special events. By creating and supporting a diverse and culturally rich community, our region will continue to attract more artistic, creative, and cultural opportunities. Your support of the Knoxville Opera also supports the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, as we are their largest employer.
  • You support the University of Tennessee. The Knoxville Opera Studio is a training ground for talented singers at the University of Tennessee School of Music.
  • You can enjoy opera right here in our hometown. Audiences and critics alike agree that Knoxville Opera provides high quality and inspiring opera productions, which eliminates your need to travel out of town.

For all these reasons and more, we need your support for Knoxville Opera. We gratefully rely on the generosity of our community—people like you—who care about making East Tennessee a special place to live.   For more information about making a contribution, please call the Development Office at 865-524-0795, extension 25.

Support the Arts in Tennessee with Specialty License Plates

The arts are getting cut from state budgets across America. In Tennessee, we are fortunate to have an additional source of funding. The extra revenue we receive from specialty and personalized license plate sales has been key to our survival. More than 70% of the money used to fund the 800+ grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission last year was from the sale of these specialty license plates. Consequently, promoting specialty plate sales is one of the most important things you and your organization can do to ensure funding for the arts in Tennessee!

Where does my $35 go?

Ninety percent of revenue from the sale goes directly to the Tennessee Arts Commission. The remainder goes to the state of Tennessee to cover the cost of manufacturing the plate.

Do I have to renew my registration to pre-order a plate?

No, your license plate pre-order does not have to coincide with your regular registration renewal.

What if I just renewed my plate?

Once you receive notice that your plate is ready, you can go immediately to your local County Clerk’s office to redeem your plate. If it does not coincide with your annual registration renewal, they will pro-rate your annual renewal fee. Or, if you prefer, the county clerk will hold the plate until it’s time to renew your registration.

Can I personalize my plate?

Once the new plates have been produced and are available in the local county clerk’s office, you can apply for a personalized plate by completing the application for Tennessee personalized license plates and sending the application along with a $70 fee to the taxpayer and Vehicle Services Division.
