“Mainly Mozart Festival”
offers Five Free Concerts and a Unique Opera Extravaganza!
In honor of the 250th birthday of the legendary Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Knoxville Opera is proud to present a “Mainly Mozart Festival” celebration on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church (Kingston Pike at Cedar Bluff Road).
The Festival kicks off at 11:00 am with five free hour-long concerts followed by a unique Mozart Opera Extravaganza at 5:00 p.m. comprised of SELECTIONS FROM ALL TWENTY Mozart operas! A “Supper with the Stars” follows at Peerless Restaurant on North Peters Road.
Tickets for the Opera Extravaganza and the Supper are available by calling Knoxville Opera at 865-524-0795.
The wide variety of concerts feature distinguished international artists from the Metropolitan, La Scala, Paris and New York City Opera companies, Knoxville Opera Studio singers, the Cedar springs Presbyterian Sanctuary Choir, the Knoxville Children’s Choir, The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, the Knoxville Opera Chorus, and seventeen-year-old Malcolm Matthews (senior at The Webb School of Knoxville), winner of Knoxville Opera’s Mozart Piano Concerto Competition.
The repertoire includes both rarely heard and very popular works such as the Requiem Mass and “Eine kleine Nachtmusik.”
There will also be showings of the Oscar-winning film Amadeus.
This Festival is likely the first time an entire day has been devoted to the music of Mozart in Knoxville and, according to General Director Brian Salesky, “it is Knoxville Opera’s privilege to join the worldwide celebration of Mozart by offering a significant amount of his exquisite music to our community.”
