  23. […] The Rossini Festival is a "don't miss." It will be held April 28 this year. Throughout the year, Knoxville celebrates the first Friday of the month with lots of doings going on downtown. First Friday! Personally, I think the most fun in the city is Saturday mornings at the farmer's market in Market Square. It will be starting up again on May 2. Local farmer's come in from all over East Tennessee to sell veggies, dairy, eggs, meats. There is also an incredibly diverse amount of other wares such as jewelry, dog treats, ready made food and entertainment by locals. You will not regret a visit! Our art museum is very small but free but has a nice permanent collection and often important exhibits like the one featuring Ai Weiwei when he was jailed in China. Knoxville Museum of Art When I first visited the The Museum of East Tennessee History it was one room of exhibits. One small room, that is. It has expanded. Still small, it is definitely worth a visit. They also have a very nice history celebration in the summer that is fabulous. Oddly enough, it gets no publicity so I've covered it for them. This museum is free as well. I have to rush off for work but I do want to mention that there are some nice historical homes around here. Two of them are downtown. Blount Mansion James White's Fort | Knoxville TN | Historic Fort | East Tennessee | Hearthscares | Ghost Tour | Downtown Knoxville | Association | Membership | Cherokee Heritage Day | Treaty of the Holston | James White Statehood day will be coming up at the end of next month. That's a great time to visit these homes for free! Here is a page that has some info about it, which homes are participating and when. By the way, Crescent Bend is at the beginning of Sequoyah Hills, on Kingston Pike. […]

And of course, the YMCA FunZone is a must for the littles! A little tip from personal experience: they expect close to 100,000 people at this event annually so if you can “wear” your littles and avoid a stroller, you will be able to navigate the crowds much easier! If you have a child that is too big to wear and is one who loves to wander, bring the stroller because it will be easy to get lost in the packed and narrow street! […]
